Operation Feed the People is coming to Bonny Doon!!

Here’s the update from Chef Eric:

After the amazing success we have had with OFTP in Boulder Creek, we have been asked to extend our reach to the Bonny Doon Community and we couldn’t be more excited! We will be hosting an event this Saturday at the Martin Fire Station from 4-6pm.

Operation Feed the People began in Boulder Creek almost a year ago with a simple question, “how can we say we live in the best community when even 1 person is going hungry in our town?” So we embarked on our mission to be able to say that no one in our community goes hungry. With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic this became more important than ever and inspired us to also say that no one in our community is in need of essential living supplies. This program is designed to help the elderly, sick, suffering, single parent, or any one of our neighbors who could really just use some help.

In this situation, we have also become aware that, due to the pandemic, the Bonny Doon volunteer fire department will not have the opportunity to conduct their normal fundraising events, leaving them in serious need of financial assistance. Through this event will will be giving 50% of all money raised directly to Bonny Doon Fire & Rescue as a way of saying thank you for letting us host our event at the station.

The event we are hosting will be happening this Saturday, June 6th at the Martin Fire Station in Bonnie Doon from 4-6pm. Donations of non-perishable, packaged foods and fresh produce will be accepted between 2-3:30pm at the Martin Fire Station. Offerings of home cooked, prepared foods can NOT be accepted with accordance to the SC County Health Inspector with whom we have been working VERY closely over the past few weeks to update our pandemic response protocol. More details will follow, but we will set things up so folks can remain in there cars as they drive through. A volunteer will assist you and bring supplies directly to your vehicle. We ask that you wear a mask if possible, but they are not required. We will have a limited amount of masks available for folks who are in need of one.

Anyone who wants to volunteer can. Volunteers can arrive at the station between 2-4pm. Please bring a mask if you have one, otherwise we should be able to provide you with one. Gloves will be provided. Snacks & cold drinks for volunteers are always a welcome donation.

The safety of volunteers and all folks participating is of the utmost importance. We will be conducting this event under the strict protocol as laid out by the SC County Health Department.

This event is designed to help Bonny Doon residents in need of a little help. Santa Cruz offers numerous programs to help those in need living there and our events do not “bring in outsiders,” however we do not discriminate against any people for any reason.

Operation FTP has no political or religious affiliation. We don’t care who you voted for, what God you kneel to, or if you have any legal indiscretions in your past. If you are hungry you deserve to eat and if you are cold you deserve warmth. Let’s all work together to help make sure that not 1 person in Bonny Doon is suffering, going hungry, or living in need of essential living supplies. Thank you much LOVE to ALL ♥
